The LIFE NEW4CARTRIDGES project was a key focus at an event organized by the Politecnico of Milan on May 30th in Milan. The event discussed the important topic of the Twin Transition as a challenge for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), especially in terms of sustainability and digitalization.
Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are tackling the challenge of the Twin Transition with great determination, a journey that sees them committed to both sustainability and digitalization.
The Digital Observatory for SMEs conducted a reserch, interviewing numerous companies and presenting the results during a conference.
Claudio Rorato, Director of the Digital Innovation Observatory for SMEs, declared that 2024 could be the year Italy lays the foundations for a digital and green revolution. This optimism from both the forecasted reduction in interest rates, making investments more affordable for businesses, and the significant contribution of public finance to this "twin transition."
The discussions during the event included researchers, CEOs, marketing managers, economists, and business developers, allowing them to express opinions and share experiences on the Twin Transition theme. This interaction enriched the debate and provided valuable insights for tackling future challenges.
SMEs are discovering numerous digital advantages, integrating them into their production processes. In fact, data shows that 65% of Italian SMEs have already started investing in digital technology, although most still focus on basic technologies such as management software and collaboration apps. However, due to a lack of specialized skills, only 20% of businesses have developed advanced projects integrating big data, blockchain, artificial intelligence, and augmented or virtual reality.
Regarding sustainability, 76% of SMEs consider green initiatives a priority, but only 27% have designated a dedicated sustainability officer.
During the conference, the SMEs Awards 2024 were presented, recognizing the best digital transformation projects for small and medium enterprises.
Among the finalists there was also LIFE NEW4CARTRIDGES, our innovative project focusing on sustainability, particularly recycling and regeneration.
Our project focuses on digitizing production processes to make operations smarter and more efficient.
At the end of the event, during the networking and presentation of the winning projects, enthusiasm and curiosity about all the competing initiatives were palpable.
Events like this inspire us to be role models for others working for change every day, leading towards a more digital and sustainable future.
Our final event is rapidly approaching and promises to be a concrete demonstration of how SMEs are ready to embrace change. In addition to the presentation of the LIFE NEW4CARTRIDGES project and the challenges it has faced, there will be an opportunity to visit the regeneration plant, and how the integration of digitalization and sustainability is achievableis.
